As SAB’s debut of their first ever spring festival draws nearer, anticipation is rising when it comes to the next three scheduled performers. Spring Fest is planning to feature a total of four headliners. The first of the performers to be announced was Super Mash Bros., who feature techno music as well as mash ups of different songs.
In reference to the kinds of groups that are scheduled to perform, SAB vice president of public relations, Eddie Stephens, said, “We tried to get something for everyone and appeal to as many people as we can.” Regarding Super Mash Bros., Stephens said, “I’ve heard a lot of kids have heard of them. They’re popular and relevant right now.”
SAB has been using Facebook and Twitter to reveal the artists to students, and announced yesterday that the next scheduled performer will be pop duo Karmin. The group appeared on Saturday Night Live in February, and are known for their covers of popular songs. “They have their own original songs and they do covers of other songs too, so people will be familiar with the music,” said Stephens. “We thought they would help support the fun environment we are going for.” SAB hopes to have various genres of music featured at the festival. “We are getting a little bit of everything,” said Stephens.
Two performers have yet to be announced, and SAB urges students to continue to check Facebook and Twitter for the last two reveals. “Our goal is to have all of the artists revealed by the end of the month,” said Stephens.
When deciding to host an outdoor festival as opposed to the usual Spring Fever concert, SAB liked the idea that for students, Spring Fest would be a different experience than just going to a concert. “We already did Lupe Fiasco in the fall, and when we did Spring fever in the past we tried to fill a whole week. We thought, ‘Why don’t we do it all at once so that people can experience the best of it all,’” said Stephens. On April 13th, various CSOs will be setting up stands in the quad and promoting themselves. Students can look forward to an afternoon of games, giveaways and performances from campus dance and a capella groups.
“This is the first time we’ve done this so it’s a chance to be a part of a new tradition at SLU,” said Stephens. To students eager to know the final two performers, Stephens said, “Expect the unexpected because you’re never know who we’re going to get.”
