The Saint Louis University men’s soccer team (7-3, 1-1 Atlantic 10) will face the No. 21 Virginia Commonwealth Rams (6-1-3, 2-0 Atlantic 10) at 7:00 p.m. at Hermann Stadium. This is the first A-10 home game for the Billikens this season. The Bills are coming off a 1-0 victory against Dayton on Sunday and lost to No. 17 Xavier, 3-2, into their first two conference contests. VCU in their first two A-10 contests defeated No. 13 Charlotte, 4-1, and defeated George Washington, 3-0.
Match Up History: This is the first time that these teams will meet on the field.
Players to Watch:
SLU forward Robbie Kristo: Kristo scored a goal against Xavier and contributed to the own goal against Dayton. Kristo has been playing on a very high level. Head Coach Mike McGinty has complemented his play recently, Kristo has scored three goals in his past three games and has played every minute since the Creighton game. Kristo has five goals and two assists this season, he will be a major factor in tonight’s attacking the VCU defense.
VCU forward Jason Johnson: Johnson is coming off an amazing week, he had one goal and one assist in the game against Charlotte and George Washington, he was named NCAA and A-10 player of the week, and looks to continue his hot streak. Johnson has eight goals and three assists this season. Johnson will be major threat to SLU’s young defense, although the Bills had done well this season, Johnson’s attack first mentality will be a challenge for the Bills
X-Factor:
David Graydon: Graydon is the attacking center midfielder, he will play a big role tonight to break down the VCU defense. Johnson will attempt to pressure the Bills defense, so Graydon has to be aggressive and set up Alex Sweetin and Kristo for tonight’s match. If he can attack the middle, it might led to opportunities on the sides for Jon Roeckle to send crosses into the box.
