Unfortunate timing and low ticket sales led to the cancellation of the Student Activities Board’s Spirit Day Player’s Ball.
The Ball had been originally scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 29.
Live entertainment would have been featured by the Seventeenth Floor, but was canceled in an attempt to minimize financial losses.
SAB Spirit Chair Jana Evers said that poor ticket sales could be attributed to numerous Greek activities held last weekend.
Excitement over the upcoming Super Bowl Sunday could have also played a part in the lack of interest, Evers said.
Junior Cris Airaghi did buy a ticket to the dance.
“My group of friends had been looking forward to it,” Airaghi said.
“I knew a lot of people who wanted to go, but they were planning on buying their tickets at the door,” she added.
An earlier Spirit Day event on the morning of Jan. 29, however, proceeded as planned.
Bagels, donuts and refreshments were handed out to SLU students who rode the spirit buses to the Kiel Center for the men’s basketball game versus Louisville that afternoon.
Evers said, “(The Player’s Ball) was one of our committee’s most anticipated events of this semester.
“However, we are currently working on another spirit event in conjunction with the men’s basketball team,” she added.
A “Party in the Pub” is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 26.
This event will take place at the new bar in the lower level of the Busch Memorial Center following the Billikens’ game versus DePaul scheduled that afternoon.
