New MetroTix Outlet To Open In BMC

Music lovers on campus will soon be able to obtain concert tickets right here.

Once the final contract is settled, students will have their own MetroTix outlet located on the second floor of the Busch Memorial Center.

“We thought it would be another nice service for students and faculty,” said BMC Director Mark Barry.

In addition, Barry has heard from several people suggesting that it would be a beneficial service to have on campus.

Barry contacted MetroTix around the end of February, and he is now working to complete the contract. “We’ll be finished in a couple of weeks, once the contract comes back,” Barry said.

The MetroTix outlet will fill the long-vacant space formerly occupied by the Gourmet Bean, between the front desk and the Meritek Travel office.

Jason Sengheiser, general manager of Saint Louis University’s radio station, KSLU, is glad to see the MetroTix outlet come to the BMC. KSLU, which sponsors numerous bands on campus throughout the year, will be able to offer more tickets to more people through MetroTix.

“We will be able to sell (tickets) all over,” Sengheiser said. “SLU alumni won’t have to come all the way down to campus to get tickets from the station. It’s very convenient.”

However, KSLU will not be selling tickets to all of their shows through MetroTix. Major shows, such as the recent Fishbone and Mighty Mighty BossTones would have tickets available through MetroTix. Smaller shows with a smaller expected audience would be sold at the station.

It will also make it more convenient for students to obtain tickets to shows around St. Louis. Instead of having to go to Streetside Records or Vintage Vinyl, they will simply have to walk over to the BMC.

In addition to selling tickets, Barry plans to use the space as an extension of the bookstore. He plans to offer soda, candy, T-shirts and other convenience items. However, the details will not be final until the contract is completed.

With recent interest in a new student center, most notably the SLUnion proposal from the Student Government Association, the investment in reopening the space raised some questions about the future of the BMC.

“It’s not costing us anything,” said Barry. “We just repainted and put new carpet in.”

The MetroTix equipment and the training for the student workers who will run the shop are supplied by MetroTix.

Barry expects the shop to be up and running in six to eight weeks.
