Judicial Affairs Coordinator Hired

Recently, Saint Louis University filled the position of Coordinator of Judicial Affairs with Terrence Signorello, who has served as the Undergraduate Admissions Coordinator for the University since November.

Signorello’s new position places him in charge of all nonacademic student disciplinary actions on campus. He will work closely with area coordinators and the Residence Hall Judicial Affairs Board to handle disciplinary cases.

Additionally, Signorello’s responsibilities include supervising the training of the Sexual Assault Committee to ensure that the cases are handled appropriately, and serving as an appeal court officer for the Judicial Board.

Signorello brings an impressive work history to his new position. Before coming to Saint Louis University, Signorello worked as the Assistant Director of the Rape and Assault Center at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville.

Through his involvement in student development and judicial affairs, he has worked with law enforcement and area hospitals concerning sexual assault cases, allowing him to gain valuable experience that can be used in his role as coordinator.

Signorello approaches his new role as coordinator with optimism. “I hope to focus on educational and corrective measures as opposed to punitive methods,” he said.

“We want to help the students through the judicial process by directing them to academic and counseling resources so they can be productive members of the University,” he said.

An important goal of Signorello’s involves his relationship with students. “I want to make it known to students that there are two components to my job,” Signorello said. “Not only do I fulfill the responsibility of the Judicial Affairs function but I also want to interact with students in a positive fashion because I enjoy helping them with their academic careers.”

At this point in his career as coordinator, Signorello states, “I want to make sure that I understand Saint Louis University’s system and philosophy when it comes to student affairs.” Signorello’s personal philosophy follows close to that of SLU’s.

“I understand that college students are away from home, so there are opportunities for experimentations; however, there are rules and regulations to allow students to thrive in a safe environment, and they must be followed,” he said.

Brian Suda, KSLU general manager, sat in this summer on the interviewing of potential candidates for the Judicial Affairs position. From his viewpoint, he is in agreement with SLU’s choice.

“I feel that Terrence Signorello was the most qualified candidate due to his experience in judicial affairs,” Suda said.

Signorello, in conjunction with Judicial Affairs, hopes to be able to establish a good working relationship with the student body and make the judicial process as efficient as possible.
