SAB Brings MTV Tour To Campus

The Student Activities Board will bring the MTV Campus Invasion Tour to Saint Louis University on Thursday, Oct. 26. The MTV Campus Invasion Tour includes an interactive music festival throughout the day, video stations, experimental computer-generated music where students can star in their own videos and interviews for MTV shows such as the Real World and Road Rules.

“This is definitely the biggest event we’ll have this fall,” said Chris Grabau, Coordinator of Student Activities and SAB Co-Advisor.

“It’s going to have a carnival-type atmosphere,” Grabau said. “It should be really great.”

The day will conclude with a concert starring hip-hop groups Wycliffe Jean, De La Soul and Black Eyed Peas, according to Ryan Murphy, SAB President.

“This is great promotion for the school,” Murphy said. “MTV runs a series of 120 on-air tour promotions that will include SLU’s name.”

This is the first time anyone in the St. Louis area has booked this event, Murphy said.

“The event will take place on campus,” Murphy said. “We just have to decide where.”

Grabau said the event will take lots of planning and resources. Currently, the price is about the same as that of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones concert from last semester, but specifics could not be given.

“MTV is great,” Grabau said. “They’re providing not only the talent, but also the entire production crew.”

According to Grabau, there is no comparison between this and the Bosstones concert.

“While the Bosstones was awesome,” Grabau said, “with the amount of promotion and the combination of an all-day-and-night event, the MTV Campus Invasion Tour should be in a different league entirely.”

SAB will provide more ticket information later, but adds that students will receive discounts on tickets and the option to purchase them before they are available to the public, Murphy said.

Murphy advises students to check out MTV.com for more information about the tour. He added that any questions can be e-mailed to [email protected].
