Student Appears In Playboy Issue

Saint Louis University has now graced the pages of Playboy-sort of.

Jennifer Cross, a SLU senior, appears in the October issue of Playboy magazine, but unlike some of her fellow Conference USA playmates, Cross only revealed her midriff and legs.

Cross, who declined comment, was chosen after an interview at the Adam’s Mark Hotel on April 27 and 28.

“They did a test shot in a two-piece bikini and a regular question-and-answer interview,” said Playboy Publicity Coordinator Jeff Boorzanes. He said the only requirements were that the models be at least 18 years of age and a full- or part-time student at the University.

Boorzanes said that anyone who called and set up an appointment was given the test shot and interview.

Cross was pictured wearing a cut-off T-shirt with a SLU logo on the front, a bikini bottom, and was holding a pair of pompoms. Cross was standing on a jeep surrounded by Sigma Chi fraternity members and other students.

“They were shooting at Laclede Street Bar and Grill,” said Sigma Chi President Jared Nevil, “and someone told them our house was right behind it. So they asked us if they could shoot there.”

“They were looking for a shot with no nudity, cigarettes or alcohol,” Nevil added.

The original shot was taken with about 50 of the Sigma Chi members and four female students in the background.

The published photo only included three males and one female.

The photograph may not have been something most students would be expecting from Playboy, a magazine that frequently contains nudity.

“The magazine goes against the principles of the University, but the picture itself in a different context would not,” McCoy said.

Student Government President Jay Perry agreed with the University’s reaction to the issue-taking no action.

“I support the University’s saying that they won’t interfere because it’s her choice. I think they’re doing the right thing with that,” Perry said.
