President’s Reception To Honor Academic Achievements

Explaining Plato’s reality, demonstrating the use of various muscles and highlighting the differences between a recession and a depression are but a part of a professor’s time at Saint Louis University.

Aside from educating students, faculty continue their learning by authoring books, conducting research and creating new works of art and machinery.

On Wednesday, Oct. 25, numerous departments across the University will gather to present their faculty’s scholarly works in the Presidential Scholarly Recognition Reception.

“The reception recognizes and honors the scholarly achievements of SLU faculty,” explained Carol Murphy, administrative assistant to the dean of the Graduate School, who is helping to organize the event.

Faculty Senate President John Slosar said, “It is an opportunity for the faculty, students and staff to find out what the faculty are doing.”

In past years, presentations have included books, journal articles, software, films and artwork.

Students are encouraged to attend. “It’s a great opportunity for students to become aware of the types of research faculty are conducting,” Murphy said.

Jean-Robert Leguey-Feilleux, Ph.D., acting chair of the department of political science, fears that the event will not be well-attended-a problem that has occurred in the past.

“We are dealing with people who are very busy,” he said. He suggested the event be connected with some other event, to assure that more people would be in attendance.

The event will be held in the Simon Recreation Center from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. It is free and open to students, staff and faculty.
