Satellite Bookstore Set For BMC

Biology students seeking “blue books,” highlighters or any other last-minute school supplies, can quickly grab the needed materials without a jaunt to the west side of campus.

Barnes & Noble Bookstore will open a satellite store in the Busch Memorial Center in the space formerly occupied by The Gourmet Bean, a space that has remained empty for over a year.

“If you’re over here on campus, you don’t need to go all across campus for basic supplies,” said Lisa Lee, assistant manager at the bookstore.

It will include a variety of school supplies, in addition to school apparel and gift merchandise such as shot glasses, pennants and key chains. Some snack foods and candy will also be sold. National newspapers and magazines will also be available for sale.

Located in the main lobby of the BMC, the bookstore also hopes to attract guests of the University to purchase Saint Louis University gift merchandise.

“Maybe some of the guests may want to pick up a hat or shirt while in the building,” Lee said.

Trying to meet students’ needs, Student Development administrators asked Barnes & Noble if they’d be interested in establishing a satellite store.

Lee said that the store would remain open as long as there is interest.

“I’m excited,” said BMC Director Kevin Clark. “It’s a good service for the students.”

While no specific opening date has been set, Clark hoped it would open next week.

The hours of operation, also not confirmed yet, will most likely be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
