To the Editor:
I was one of the countless Cardinals fans who flocked to the Busch Student Center on Tuesday to buy tickets for the upcoming SLU night at the baseball game. Knowing that the tickets went on sale at 10:00 a.m., I arrived about 15 minutes early. Instead of getting a good spot in line, I found myself waiting behind 76 of baseball’s greatest fans. I chatted merrily with other Cardinals aficionados about the new stadium and our shot for the World Series this year-until I learned that only 300 tickets were being sold. Would this small number of tickets accommodate the huge sea of red that was congregating outside the ticket window? Nope. More than 100 fans left ticketless and disappointed.
After feeling sorry for myself, I wondered how this problem could be addressed. Perhaps the University could purchase more than 300 tickets next year, giving additional students the opportunity to experience St. Louis baseball. However, I know that only a limited amount of tickets are available for groups. Another option would be to decrease the number of tickets allowed per person. Instead of being able to buy six tickets, permitting the purchase of only two tickets per student or staff member would offer hope to the end-of-the-line stragglers (myself included).
This might sound like a personal problem. After all, I could have just gotten to the BSC earlier. I agree and will definitely bring my sleeping bag the next time some tickets go on sale. Until then, I will sulk and hope someone invites me to a game. Thanks for listening.
