Let Us Introduce You To…Kyle Sennish

Most students are familiar with Saint Louis University’s radio station, located on the first floor of the Bush Student Center.
Music often radiates from behind its big, glass windows.
However, how many students are familiar with what goes on inside the glass windows?
Behind the windows is a team of D.J.s, led by senior Kyle Sennish.
This is Sennish’s second year as the general manager of KSLU.
His job entails overseeing the day-to-day operations of the station, manning a staff of directors and setting goals for the station.
“I act as a liaison between the administration and KSLU,” Sennish said.
Ever since the beginning of his college career, Sennish has been working with KSLU.
“I joined my freshman year, as soon as I arrived at SLU,” he said. “I just got really involved right away.”
Sophomore year he was a member of the executive board, and then he ran for the position of general manager.
Despite running against a student who was a year older, Sennish won the election.
This year, he ran unopposed in the election.
Of course Sennish is a music fan. His favorite genres include indie-rock and folk. Bloc Party, Beirut and Lightspeed Champion are his favorite bands
But despite all this, he does not plan to make a career out of radio.
An aerospace engineering major at SLU, Sennish hopes, despite the economy, he will find a job doing something relating to his major.
However, he will not be walking away from his experience at KSLU empty-handed.
Sennish said that he will incorporate the leadership skills he has learned while working at KSLU into his life after graduation.
He also enjoys the community aspect of working at KSLU.
“It’s really a group of friends … enjoying each others’ company,” Sennish said.
The KSLU crew recently took a trip to New York to attend a College Music Journal conference.
Sennish said that they learned leadership skills like organizing a station, tips on how to operate a station more efficiently and important D.J. and networking skills. The CMJ conference is one of Sennish’s favorite memories from his years at KSLU.
However, kickball games against Washington University’s radio station and honeing his own musical skills on drums and guitar are also high on the list.
