Bills Are On A Roll
The Saint Louis University field hockey team completes its regular season schedule with two contests in Elkins, W. Va. SLU plays Davis & Elkins on Sunday, Oct. 24 and then takes on Pacific on the following day. Davis & Elkins stands at 1-7, while Pacific’s record is 1-8.
SLU continued its strong play last weekend with a 12-0 pounding of Lindenwood University on Saturday. Senior Lucy Durbin lit up the Lions for five goals while fellow senior Becky Brunner scored two goals for the Billikens. Kristen Burich also had two goals while Heather Mattingly, Keri Brunner and Erin Gay tallied the other goals.
With the win, SLU improved to 5-8 on the season. After starting the season with a 1-6 mark, the Billikens have taken four of their last six games.
Tennis
Team Plays Well At UL
The women’s tennis team participated in an invitational event at the University of Louisville last weekend. Every Billiken player performed well, as seven players won at least one match in their respective flights.
In flight A, senior Courtney Hague defeated two opponents before losing to Patty Vega of East Tennessee State, 6-3, 6-2. In flight B, junior Ingrid Habony won three matches before falling in the finals to Cadi Helpus, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Freshman Erin Kersten took the consolation championship in flight D with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Kelly Kiehna.
Golf
Squad Takes 12th Place
After a great second place result last week, the Billiken golf team struggled on Monday and Tuesday at the Louisville Intercollegiate. The squad finished in 12th place out of 18 teams with a two-day team score of 617. Notre Dame won the event with a team total of 593.
Kyle Lopez tied for ninth place, shooting a 74 on the first day and a 75 on the second day, for a total of 149. He finished seven strokes behind the winner, Eric Mason of Western Kentucky, who shot a 142. Tony Zarlengo fired a 10-over par 154, which put him in a tie for 38th place.
The Bills travel to Springfield, Mo., for a tournament at Southwest Missouri State next Monday and Tuesday.
Cross Country
Teams Finish In 14th & 20th
The cross country teams ran in the Wisconsin-Parkside Invitational last weekend. the women’s team had a strong performance, it finished the meet in 14th place out of 34 teams.
Katie Even took top honors on the team, placing 56th in the field with a time of 19:56. Aimee Walther crossed the line right behind her, securing 58th place with a time of 19:58.
The men’s squad finished the meet in 20th place out of 36 teams. Senior Juan Brito paced all Billiken runners with a 74th place finish with a time of 27:12.
Miscellaneous
Ticket Info For Mizzou Game
Season ticket holders may pick up a ticket order form for the Dec. 12, 3:30 p.m. contest against Missouri at the Billiken Ticket Office in the Bauman-Eberhardt Athletic Center.
The forms will be available on Oct. 25 and should be completed and returned by Oct. 29 before 3 p.m. Students can pick up their season tickets during this time as well. The remaining tickets to be sold to the public will go on sale on Oct. 31 at the Billiken Ticket Office or by calling Ticketmaster at (314) 241-1888. Prices for the tickets are $15, $25 and $35.
