SLU’s Hindu Students Community held its annual Diwali celebration on November 9th for hundreds of students and club members. The event featured several dance and musical acts from various SLU groups. Aasta Acapella performed mashups of various American and Indian songs. Competitive dance teams, Omkara and Shakti, performed Indian classical and fusion style dances, respectively. There were also some solo acts and a special dance from the HSC executive board.
The night ended with a classic Indian dinner menu, including butter paneer and gulab jamun, and lighting firecrackers outside the Busch Student Center. The event also included informative portions, where emcee Niveta Sharma explained some of the history and traditions of Diwali and how people can celebrate. Overall, the function was a big success for the organization, which will be hosting more events in the upcoming semester. To stay informed of upcoming events, follow HSC on Instagram at @sluhsc.
